I Heart Tilda Swinton

I just had to post about this stunning shoot of an incredible woman in AnOther Magazine this month. Shot by Craig McDean and wearing designs by some of this seasons hottest designers including Craig Lawrence, Mary Katrantzou, Mark Fast, Louise Goldin and Peter Pilotto, I thought the images were just exquisite.

Tilda Swinton is one of my favourite actresses and a generally elegant and beautiful woman. Perfect model for some of these amazing designs!

Chanel S/S 2012 Collection

If you haven't already seen the majestic shoot by Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel's 2012 spring/summer collection then you are missing out, but don't worry because below are a few of my favourite images from the stunning shoot.
Unless you've been living under a rock, I am sure you are all aware that Great Britain is hosting the 2012 Olympics. Every newspaper, TV programme and advert you see has gone sporting mad therefore it only makes sense that fashion would follow shortly after. We have seen the gorgeous Jessica Ennis on the front cover of Marie Claire and now Chanel are taking their classic style and adding a sporting twist. So whilst we may not have the bodies or athletic prowess of the likes of Jessica Ennis, it is now fashionable to dress as if we have! So grab your running shoes and tennis whites and embrace the new fashion, if it's anything like the Chanel clothes shown in this gorgeous sport inspired shoot then I can't wait!
Who would have ever thought it, me wishing for clothes like my old gym kit again?

Viviane Sassen

This month I am loving Viviane Sassen. I first discovered her after seeing her incredible In Bloom shoot in Dazed and Confused (see blog post 10th July) and fell in love with her work completely after just seeing it at HotShoe gallery in London. I find her work is so contemporary and different to a lot of the fashion photographers out there. Seeing her work exhibited has really helped inspire me for my current project. Having achieved great success as a fashion photographer, publishing work in avant-garde fashion magazines, she has established a unique visual vocabulary all her own. Her aesthetic combines a sense of childhood memory, where scenes are crystallized and highly saturated with color and shadow, with a photographer’s sensitivity to the body and surface.

I absolutely love her fashion work as well as her personal series and I hope you do to! Here are a few of my favourite photographs of hers but I encourage you to visit the Hotshoe gallery before the 27th November in order to see her work along with Alec Sloth and WassinkLundgren.

Dazed and Confused's July 2011

Hello Dazed! This summer Dazed and Confused has brought one of their best issues to date, in my opinion. I finally got the time to sit down and flick through one of my favourite magazines before the August issue was sent through my door and boy was it a treat.

The front cover oozes vibrant sexyness with a brilliant shot of the one and only Beyonce Knowles looking as strong and beautiful as ever. The fantastic shoot by Sharif Hamza captured Beyonce's pop icon status perfectly, capturing the confident, fierce and breathtakingly beautiful 27yr old star. The juxtaposition of the run down location and the incredible outfits (made especially for the shoot) created a vibrant, incredibly cool and perfect atmosphere to capture one of this generations most successful and talented stars. Here's a little taster for all you bloggers...

After the Beyonce shoot, comes "In Bloom" a fashion shoot by photographer Viviane Sassen and styled by Katie Shillingford. This shoot has to be one of my favourite magazine pieces. The colourful flower field location clashing with the bold colours of the clothes modeled, creates the most visually vibrant and audacious fashion stories I have ever seen and I absolutely loved it and can't wait to try something similar myself.

So cheers Dazed for refreshing the fashion scene this summer. I was getting a little bored of the dull, unimaginative shoots that have been filling the fashion magazines at the moment.

The Sunday Times Style Magazine 6th March 2011

One thing I dislike about commercial photography is how long it takes for you to see the finished publication. About a month ago I assisted on a shoot with Victor De Mello for the Sunday Times Style Magazine for their "Big Spring Issue" and finally it's out. The shoot looks great and it was a wonderful experience (though very long and tiring days of course). I have done a few shoots with Victor now and am always impressed with his work when it comes out. So everyone, take at look at the Sunday Times Magazine that came out on the 6th March and let me know what you think of the shoot to learn about "Your SS11 Lookbook on how to wear the trends". (And yes that is my name in tiny print on the last page of the spread!!!)

And also for your viewing pleasure, I took some sneaky backstage shots on my phone for you to see how the shoot went on! Enjoy!

Noel Stewart's "Heat Wave"

I recently discovered London based milliner Noel Stewart and immediatley fell in love with his work. He is not just creating fashionable hats, no they are works of contemporary art. Beautifully crafted they seem almost to be forms of architecture, which he does claim to be a strong point of inspiration along with natural landscapes all of which is obvious in his work.

The pictures below are examples of his spring/summer 2011 collection, and in my opinion are his best yet. They are elegant, sophisticated and beautiful whilst still being original and fun. So this winter I am definitely asking Santa to leave one of these under my tree!

Oh and I think the photography by Morgan O'Donovan is fabulous too!

Androgyny

Masculine and feminine characteristics join forces in my shoot for Nathalie Kay's fashion project based on Androgyny. I was really pleased with the outcome of the images due to the lack of resources available (the shoot took place in Kay's lounge using lamps as lighting). The styling by Nathalie Kay was great, using a mixture of feminine and masculine clothing. The final image she wanted was two poses combined into one photograph, personally I prefer the individual shots, but what the customer wants the customer gets!
Overall a really successful shoot.
